TOP Mentor 2024

TOP Mentors guide new students during TOP Week. As TOP Mentors, you and your co-mentor will take care of a TOP Group and make sure that the participants have the best start of their student life in Tilburg. Besides that, you and your co-mentor have the unique opportunity to experience this great introduction week all over again!  

 
The registration process  
You register with your co-mentor. The procedure is as follows: 
  1. One of you goes through the entire registration process first via this page. 
  2. He/she fills in the co-mentor's information at the end.  
  3. The co-mentor receives an e-mail with a link to register and to link your profiles. 
  4. If you are both registered and your profiles are linked, you will receive an e-mail with information about the application procedure. 
 
Your School or university of applied sciences
  • TiSEM: As a TiSEM student, you serve as a mentor for both TOP and MAK. If you and your fellow mentor are studying at the Tilburg School of Economics and Management, you sign up as both a TOP Mentor and a MAK Introduction Day Mentor. After TOP Week, you no longer have any responsibilities. More information can be found at: https://www.maktilburg.nl/students/mak-introduction/
  • TLS: As TOP Mentor for Rechtsgeleerdheid, Ondernemingsrecht, Fiscaal Recht or Bestuurskunde you will also be PASS mentor for the whole academic year. This means that you help your workgroup with study related questions and help them reach the right people to solve problems. You work with a teacher mentor and together you make sure students do not drop out. In doing so you will also have to organize some events and have to attend mandatory events. These tasks will be compensated financially. For questions please e-mail commissarispr@magisterjft.nl. If you're interested in mentoring first-year students but not guiding them during TOP Week, keep an eye on Canvas for updates about the TLS mentorship program for the incoming first-year students. 
  • TSB: If you and your co-mentor study at the Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, you are obliged to guide the first year students after TOP Week for the whole academic year. You take part in the Mentorship Program as a student mentor and guide first year students on behalf of Faculty Association IDEA. For questions please e-mail: info@idea-tilburg.com.
  • If you and your co-mentor study at one of the other Schools, both study at different Schools or study at Avans or Fontys, you will not have to guide any students after TOP Week.

Preparation days

To prepare you as effectively as possible for your role as a TOP mentor, we organize preparation days. Here you will learn what is expected of you as a mentor and get to know the other mentors in a fun way. It is mandatory to participate in the preparation day on Friday, July 19th. If you are unable to attend on that date, there will also be a preparation day on Friday, August 2nd.

Sleeping places

It is possible that not everyone in your group has a room in Tilburg. To make sure that everyone can participate in the activities during TOP Week, we ask you and your co-mentor to arrange sleeping places for the people in your group who do not yet have a place to sleep. Please indicate if as a couple you can provide at least 8 sleeping places.

Group composition

New students have different reasons for participating in TOP Week. To best assess their needs, we ask them to indicate their interests on a scale containing the following points.
  • Culture and development: Participate in TOP Week to get to know the city of Tilburg and discover everything Tilburg offers as a student city in the field of cultural, personal and professional development. 
  • Student life and party: Participate in TOP Week to learn about student life in Tilburg by going out and joining other festive and social activities. 
This year, we also want to measure the mentors' needs in these areas in order to make the group making process even better. Please note: this is not a guarantee for the type of group you will get as this is one of the many variables taken into account while making groups.

During TOP Week, in addition to Bachelor mentors, we also need mentors for guiding (pre-) master groups. Please indicate below if you might also be interested in becoming a mentor of a (pre-) master group.

Should you not end up becoming a TOP Mentor, are you willing to become a TOP Crew during TOP Week? As a TOP Crewmember you help the TOP organization during TOP Week and you work different shifts during the week. In return you will receive a compensation.
